THE MAGICAL PIG
Up in the mountains, a long time ago,a peasent, called clod, lived with his wife, mrs. Clod.once a week, Mr. Clod would drive theirhorse and cart down to the market in the vally.
Attachedto the horse's harness was a set of bells.
Now mr. Clod was very fond of stew with mountain herbs. He also liked his slippers warmed for him by the fire, so that he could chang into them as soon as he reached home. Towerd evening, Mrs. Clod would listen for the sound of bells rising from the road at the foot of the mountain.
"Ah, that means my good hasbend, Clod, will be home in two hours," she would smile and, she would slip out into her garden and gather the herbs she grew, which ware needed for herstew. When she had prepared the harbs she would put them into the cauldron and push the cauldron of stew over the fire to be coocked.
When Mrs. Clod heard the bells again, she knew it meant her husband had reached the straight piece of rode leading to their home. Then she put slippers to warm by the fire.
One day Mr. Clod travelled down to the valley as usual, waving goodbye to his wife. Before he left he reminded her to have stew with mountain herbs, and to have his slippers warm, ready for his return.
However, quiet early in the afternoon, Mrs. Clod heard music rising from the road at the foot of the mountain. At once she thought her husband was on his way home, and althout it was early, she put the stew over the fire.
